Disney Princesses Reimagined as… Root Vegetables?

Let’s face it. The Disney-princesses-reimagined-as-whatever is everywhere. We’ve seen Frozen‘s Olaf take on the roles of the ladies and the princesses as Game of Thrones characters. Heck, we’ve even seen the princesses reimagined as Marvel vs. Capcom characters! Now, thanks to artist Gemma Correll, we get a rather unique approach to the Disney princesses meme.

Take a look at her ‘Disney Princesses, Reimagined’ in the image below:

To be honest, I enjoy the Disney princesses reimagined as whatever memes so much that any take almost always blows me away, but Correll’s take has to be one of my all time favorites. The simple color palette goes well with the crude yet fine lines of each of the drawings. Her representation of the princesses also makes me realize that not a lot is needed to recognize an iconic Disney princess. It’s also just a fresh breath of air that makes me wish I could see a whole line up of Disney characters as Prokaryotic Microorganisms.

I can close my eyes and reimagine them as strong and confident women who will no longer fall victim to the Princess Complex. I see the original fairy tale princesses as being rather pissed off with how Disney has portrayed and displayed them (in merchandise and memes). These are princesses who know that “happily ever after” can be a royal pain in the ass. But mostly I imagine those princesses on a stage with lights and music as they sing and make audiences laugh while they explore what their royal world is really like in a show called “Disenchanted” (coming to Off Broadway later this year). http://www.disenchantedmusical.com/

  4. I think the artist’s message is, “stop it with the Disney Princesses, Reimagined” meme. At least, I hope it is.
