Four Disney Princesses Get STAR WARS Makeovers

If you’ve spent any amount of time on the Interwebs, you’ve seen Disney Princesses in every possible iteration. There have been gender-swapped Princesses, pin-up Princesses, a Snow White/Frozen mashup, zombie Ariel, Rapunzel who lost, time period-accurate renderings in the correct costumes, Sailor Moon Princesses, stained glass-Cinderella, and a zillion more. There have even been Disney Princesses as Star Wars characters before. This time, however, a few of the royals are getting a dark and gritty Jedi look.

Artist Phill Berry had created Star Wars versions of Jasmine from Aladdin, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and Rapunzel from Tangled over on his Deviant Art page and they’re out of this world. (Forgive us, please. It was impossible to pass up.)

“The biggest factor was if I could have fun transforming the princess’s companions into a Star Wars looking alien,” Berry told The Escapist. “I wanted to avoid making the Beast a Wookiee, or making Rajah a Nexu, so I could make my own.” Beast is wielding quite a blaster, there, speaking of. And Ariel’s buddy Flounder is a droid, swimming beside his princess companion’s cybernetic legs. Sort of reminds you of a certain red-and-black-faced character in The Clone Wars, doesn’t it? Rapunzel’s pet lizard Pascal is looking a bit ferocious in the bottom picture, though it’s hard to tell what he is supposed to be.

As far as weaponry goes, they’re mostly lightsabers, with Jasmine wielding a blue one, Belle a yellow one, and Ariel double-fisting it with two lovely teal ones. Rapunzel, however, is using her hair as blades. Berry explained, “I’ve never seen a Jedi use only the Force to wield a weapon, so I thought Rapuzel’s [sic] hair would be a great opportunity to play with that idea.”

We’d love to hear what you think of this take on our childhood favorites. Tweet me/us @JennaBusch/@Nerdist and let us know which version you’d like to cosplay. We’d also love to hear about your favorite Disney Princess meme. It’s the zombies, right?
