At D23 Expo Japan, Disney offered an advance glimpse at its next wave of theme park attractions, and it was very good news for Marvel fans. In addition to expanding upon the previously announced Ant-Man ride at Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney laid out plans for Iron Man and the Avengers, as well as a new attraction for the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Via the Disney Parks Blog and ComicBook.com, the Ant-Man ride is being rebranded as an Ant-Man and the Wasp attraction, in keeping with the title of the upcoming sequel. The ride will feature the titular heroic duo taking on Arnim Zola and a swarm of Hydra bots. The concept art released with the announcement suggests that riders will take part in the fight against Hydra with light guns that can be used to take out the bots. Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently under construction in Hong Kong Disneyland’s Marvel area, which includes the wildly popular Iron Man Experience.
Speaking of Iron Man, fans at Disneyland Paris are going to get a much closer look at the armored Avenger. The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is getting an Avengers-themed makeover, which is similar to the way that Disney’s California Adventure’s Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror became Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will reportedly allow guests to join Iron Man and his Avengers teammates on “a high-speed, hyper-kinetic adventure.” It’s currently unknown if the conversion will also take place at the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, but Aerosmith had better watch their backs!
American fans shouldn’t feel left out. Disney World’s Epcot park is getting its own Guardians of the Galaxy ride that is completely separate from Mission Breakout. Disney is promising that this attraction will be “one of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world” while showcasing a new ride system that lets visitors experience an adventure with Star-Lord and the other Guardians. It’s expected to be open by 2021.
While there aren’t currently plans for the Ant-Man and the Wasp or Avengers rides at the American Disney parks, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if they eventually make their way stateside. If Star Wars can get its own Disney “land,” then it’s probably inevitable that Marvel will get one as well.
