This may not come as a surprise to many, especially after some images of the title were leaked, but it is now official: Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition is coming to PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, and IOS this fall. Most exciting of all, however, is that this new iteration of the uber popular toy collecting video game hybrid will now include characters and play-sets from Star Wars. Now you can ingrain your life with all things Jediâ I know I will. The first starter pack will retail at $64.99 and will include the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition base and video game software, the Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic Play Set, Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker character figures, and a web code card that unlocks content for PC and mobile devices. This will be the only place where you can bring together characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars, placing them in the wackiest of situations.
Star Wars will be very well represented in the new Disney Infinity. There will be three new play-sets featuring some high points for the force-wielding masters. The first will be set during the Episode I-III timeline, second will be set during the original trilogy, and the third will be based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fans will be extremely happy with the characters that will be making an appearance which are as follows: Darth Maul, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin, and Ahsoka Tano, to name a few.
Some future sets will also include Inside Out, a future Pixar animated film, and new toys from the Avengers: Age of Ultron, including the Hulk Buster Ironman and Ultron himself. New multiplayer Toy Box Expansions are also going to be introduced. Welcome, Toy Box Speedway (kart racing) and Toy Box Takeover (action-adventure). Let the hype begin.
Some other characters that will finally join in on the fun include: Mickey, Minnie, Sam Flynn, Mulan, and of course everyone’s favorite sun loving snowman, Olaf. If parents thought this train was going to slow down any time soon, they were sadly mistaken. Their pockets will not be happy this fall. The good news is that all previous sets and collectibles will be compatible with this new version. You can check out the full announcement trailer above.
Disney is knocking it out of the park since their acquisition of both Marvel and Star Wars, not only cashing in on their popularity, but also expanding on the fan love. The focus on this new one seems to be to introduce new varied gameplay. What that means exactly is yet to be determined. Nonetheless, new gameplay is always welcome.
With the success of Skylanders and amiibos, Disney is pulling no punches. They arguably have some of the most iconic characters in their stable, so they can definitely keep up with their competitors.
