Digital Artist Makes Vintage Book Covers from Modern Movies

In case you missed it: there are people out there who can do incredibly cool things with a little inspiration and some skill at digital art. Designer Mitch Ansara has put together an incredible series of movie posters in the style of old-time book covers called “I Can Read Movies,” and they are gorgeous. Here are a few of our favorites.

These posters will evoke fond memories for anyone who grew up in the 1960s and 1970s, or who has made their way through a really well-stocked secondhand bookstore sometime in the recent past. What really stands out though is the perfect way Ansara has boiled down the plot of a movie and reworked it graphically. The design of the Highlander cover is actually beautiful in concept and delivery, as is Edward Scissorhands in our opinion.

“They were partly inspired by my friend Moss’ totally awesome movie poster remakes, and all the musty old textbooks and digests that I used to love flipping through as a kid,” Ansara told The FontFeed. The “Moss’ he mentions is the incredible designer Olly Moss who made Game of Thrones characters adorable recently and has a solid history of redesigning video game covers in the same way.

What’s even more incredible is that Ansara told The FontFeed that he has no training, and just plays around with these design ideas for fun. We wish we had that kind of crazy talent and interpretation to bring such great creations to life!

What film do you think he should adapt next? We’re kind of interested to see what he would do with Star Wars.
