The next installment of the Deus Ex franchise was announced a couple of months ago, but today Square Enix gave us a more in-depth look at the game’s plot, setting, and gameplay during E3.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided sees humanity on the brink of an uprising, or possibly a civil war, between augmented humans (augs), like our protagonist Adam Jensen, and non-augmented humans. It seems a group of augs, led by a shadowy and unnamed man, are attempting to start their own revolution, but among the main populace it is being portrayed as acts of terrorism. Jensen is brought in to try and put an end to the violence, and take down the terrorist cell. Whether he is still working for Serif Industries or not is not specified, but it seems safe to say he is.
The game shows a few tricks that Adam has up his augemented-sleeve for combat and stealth. A sort of ballistic shield, appearing like a pixilated, black forcefield around Adam will come in quite handy, as well as the electro-bullets that he uses to take out security camera.
It will also be interesting to see if the game finds a way to build off of the choices and ending of a player’s experiences in the previous game. How can each of the previous Human Revolution endings effect the story of Mankind Divided? Like the previous game it seems the story will allow for players to partake in choices that will greatly effect game play and the outcome of the story. Be on the lookout for the game next year, but pre-orders are already available.
