DESTINY: RISE OF IRON Revealed Alongside Debut Trailer

Despite being a few days away from the E3 festivities, developers are already starting to roll out announcements. Bungie and Activision took to the web earlier this morning to officially reveal Rise of Iron, Destiny‘s next big expansion, which will be available September 20, 2016 for those who own the base game and The Taken King expansion. Check out the clip at the top of the page for a taste of what’s on the way.

Like the big Fall 2015 expansion, The Taken King (which we loved), Rise of Iron is packing more story into the Destiny universe. In the trailer above, we’re introduced to the Plaguelands, a brand new area located on Earth. A character named Lord Saladin enlists the Guardian’s help to vanquish a new faction of Fallen Devils called the “Splicers” (body hackers and bioengineers who fuse metal and flesh), while unravelling the mystery of the Iron Lords. It brings players back to where the journey was born, and teases the rise of the mysterious “Lords of Iron”.

The official description of the Plaguelands:

“This area near the Cosmodrome has been quarantined for centuries. Now the Devil Splicers have broken through the walls, dug deep into the earth and found technology of almost limitless power. The Splicers are using this forbidden technology – SIVA – to transform the region to fit their twisted desires.”

Rise of Iron will be packed with new weapons, armor, and gear, as well as a new cooperative three-player Strike, a new mode and maps for the Crucible competitive multiplayer, a new social area, and an all new six-player cooperative Raid. Every player who purchases the expansion will also be able to grab the fan-favorite Gjallarhorn, with those who pre-order the expansion being granted the new Iron Gjallarhorn (shown off in the trailer below).

Rise of Iron is an exciting addition to the Destiny universe,” said Pete Parsons, CEO of Bungie. “We are continually blown away and inspired by the growing Destiny community’s energy and enthusiasm.”

“We have been working hard with our partners at Bungie and are planning great, new content for Destiny‘s 30 million registered players. Rise of Iron is the first step in fulfilling that promise,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. “There’s a ton of content packed in Rise of Iron, including a new location, a new Raid and a new Strike, combined with more quests, weapons, gear, a competitive multiplayer mode and more that we think players are going to love.”

All in all, we’re pumped for the wealth of content being offered. The expansion is set to retail at $29.99.
