Decoding the Big Marvel Game Announcement: Our Two Theories

It’s been a long time since we’ve been excited by a Marvel video game that didn’t have the words “vs. Capcom” in its title. But today, Marvel and Square Enix made a surprising announcement about a new Avengers related video game that is coming out next year. The Avengers Project will supposedly “introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.” And while the initial trailer was impressive, it only offered a few hints of what we can expect. Today’s Nerdist News is examining the clues and sharing our theories about the game!

Join our host and secret member of Cap’s kooky quartet, Jessica Chobot, as she reassembles the info from the trailer and offers up some conclusions. One of the first things that grabbed our attention was the fact that The Avengers Project is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, the teams behind Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: Mankind, respectively. Since both of those titles utilize RPG elements, it’s a reasonable leap to suggest that the Avengers game will also do so. The real question is whether it will be an action-adventure style game in the Tomb Raider mode, or a first-person shooter experience like Deus Ex.

But what if Square Enix has even bigger plans for its Avengers title? That whole “universe gamers can play in for years to come” line has us thinking that this could also turn out to be a huge Marvel MMO action-adventure title. And we have absolutely no problem with that idea!

What type of game do you want The Avengers Project to be? Assemble in the comment section below, and let’s discuss!
