You know, Ryan Reynolds, if you keep bringing up that time you worked with Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, you’re only going to make new Deadpool fans more likely to double back and watch the old ill-fated union. (I suspect Fox is counting on that, in fact.) And really, that’s okayâwe want new fans to get your jokes, after all. They’ll need the 2009 film as a reference point to understand much of the interview you conducted during the Eddie the Eagle press junket, which riffs heavily on that one time, at X-Men camp, that Deadpool had laser eyes and no mouth.
Speaking as a press person who has seen (and done) the old roasting-the-talent bit many times, I’d say Reynolds does a much better job than most when he brings the heat upon Jackman in this interview, even when it turns out the joke is on him at the end. (And when I say “most,” of course I’m not talking about our own Dan Casey, who is amazing and wonderful and brilliant and totally didn’t just slip me 10 bucks right now). In fact, Reynolds knows from the get-go that the joke’s on him; he drops references to wife Blake Lively trying to come on to Jackman in between deliberately ignorant questions designed to get a rise out of his fellow mutant, who proves equally quick with his wits.
And now that he mentions it, you know you’ve always wanted to see Jackman play Crocodile Dundeeâespecially with Reynolds in the Linda Kozlowski role. This video offers up the closest thing you’re likely to get to that, ever… until some enterprising producer watches this and decides to throw money at Jackman to actually reboot the thing.
What say you: is a Jackman Crocodile Dundee a terrible idea, or THE BEST idea? Play knifey-spoony with that thought in our comments section below.
