Deadpool Hedges His Bets in New CIVIL WAR II Teaser

Later this year, Civil War II will ignite a new conflict between Marvel’s superheroes as Iron Man and Captain Marvel’s supporters clash over the future itself. Spider-Man, Jean Grey, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, She-Hulk, Black Panther, and other heroes have already taken a side in Marvel’s previous teaser images. Now it’s Deadpool’s turn!

Marvel’s newest box office sensation is the subject of the latest Civil War II teaser image, which made its debut at Entertainment Weekly. And while Deadpool sided with Iron Man in the first Civil War, his allegiance in this battle is less clear.

Deadpool Civil War II

We have to admit, it’s very Deadpool of Wade Wilson to pick both sides of the conflict and wear paraphernalia that boils the Civil War II rivalry down to that of two sports teams. Artist Phil Noto really did a great job of capturing Deadpool’s signature sense of humor in that image.

In Marvel’s first Civil War, (and there are spoilers here, folks!) Deadpool came out in favor of the Superhuman Registration Act because it gave him the opportunity to be legitimized in the eyes of the government and the general public. At the time, Cable made sure that Deadpool was quickly discredited, but now Deadpool has the legitimacy he wanted so badly. He’s one of the most popular heroes in the Marvel Universe and he’s an Avenger! Perhaps that’s why Deadpool isn’t taking a stand here. One wrong move could jeopardize everything he’s achieved.

Civil War II will begin in May with a Free Comic Book Day preview and a #0 issue before officially launching the first issue of the miniseries in June.
