Next month, Marvelâs Deadpool will get his first solo live-action movie and send up the X-Men franchise with its most comedic film to-date. Deadpool has come a long way since he was simply a parody of DC Comicsâ Deathstroke the Terminator. And if Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has his way, his other signature creation, Cable, will follow Deadpool to the big screen.
In a recent Twitter post, Liefeld shared his dream casting pick for Cable: former Mad Men star Jon Hamm. To illustrate his point, Liefeld altered a photo of Hamm to make him look like Cable, and itâs a pretty convincing argument.

Deadpool originated as a villain for Cable and the New Mutants/X-Force back in 1991 before becoming one of Marvelâs most popular antiheroes. Cableâs history is a little bit more convoluted, though. His real name is Nathan Summers, and heâs the son the X-Menâs Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. Cable was raised in the future to fight Apocalypse after being infected by a techno-organic virus that turned him into a partial cyborg. By the time that Cable returned to the present, he was older than both of his parents!
During the Cable and Deadpool ongoing series, the former rivals became a reluctant team and could even be called âbuddies.â They are so integral to each otherâs stories that Deadpool director Tim Miller has previously said âif we donât put Cable in Deadpool 2, I think weâll be run out of town on a rail.â So if Deadpool earns a sequel, thereâs a good chance that Cable will make his live-action debut.
But will Hamm be willing to step into the role of Cable? Hamm has reportedly turned down several offers to appear in comic book movies, and there was even a time when fans wanted him to play the next Superman. However, itâs hard to fault Liefeldâs choice. Hamm could be the perfect straight man to Deadpoolâs antics and maintain Cableâs gravitas while still allowing him some funny moments.
