Based on the superb comic series by Rick Remender and Wes Craig, Deadly Class is the story of a homeless teen in the ’80s who finds himself recruited into a private school for deadly assassins. It’s a punk rock story filled with violence, angst, and heart. Without a doubt, it’s one of the best comics on the stands. And now, not only has SYFY managed to find fresh faces that look the part for the young assassins headlining their new Deadly Class series, they’ve also managed to cast some veterans who embodied the tone of the comic perfectly. Guys, Henry Rollins is in this thing. It doesn’t get any more spot-on than that.
Marcus, the central character of the series, will be played by Benjamin Wadsworth. He’s not exactly a household name, but the kid looks perfect. Visually, this could not be any better. Same goes for Lana Condor, who will play the role of Saya and Maria Gabriela de Faria playing, uh, Maria. We may not be familiar with a ton of their previous work, but we’re excited to see what these kids bring to the roles. Marcus, Saya, and Maria are really the most important characters in Deadly Class, so the right actors in these parts is essential.
The heavy-hitter in the cast is Benedict Wong, who will be portraying Master Lin, the ruthless headmaster of the school. Think of him as the anti-Dumbledore. Wong has been in everything from Doctor Strange to The Martian, and the man is a freaking scene-stealing rockstar and having him on board for this series is a fantastic sign of what’s to come.
Rounding out the series regulars is Luke Tennie as Willie, Lian James as Billy, and Michel Duval as Chico. In addition, we know that the guest star roster is packed with awesomeness. We’re talking Taylor Hickson, Siobhan Williams, Jack Gillett, Sean Depner (dude is playing Viktor, so he better start bulking up) Ryan Robbins, and Henry freaking Rollins. If you’ve read any of Deadly Class, you know how insanely magical it is that Rollins is a part of the show. He’s like the spirit animal of the entire series.
Deadly Class looks like it’s headed in the right direction and we seriously can not wait to see more. The show is being produced by The Russos, the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Infinity War, and Rick Remender. While you wait for the TV show, do yourself a favor and pick up some of the collected editions of the comic book. In addition to Remender fantastic writing, its got artwork from Wes Craig, one of the best artist in the biz.
