Last July, DC revealed plans for eight new six-issue miniseries that were slated to debut in 2016. But DCâs plans have apparently changed, as four of the new miniseries will now be packaged together as an 80 page monthly comic book anthology called Legends of Tomorrow.
The title of the anthology is clearly meant to take advantage of DCâs Legends of Tomorrow, the new superhero TVÂ series on The CW. But beyond the name, the Legends of Tomorrow comic book anthology appears to have little in common with the television show of the same name other than some of the characters in the Firestorm story. The other featured characters are Metamorpho, the Metal Men, and Sugar & Spike.
As part of the announcement, DC released the creative team information and the solicitation text for the four different stories in each issue of Legends of Tomorrow:
FIRESTORM, written by Gerry Conway with art by Eduardo Pansica and Rob Hunter:
Firestorm is back! To save Jason Rausch, Firestorm will need to retrieve Danton Blackâs stolen research from Professor Steinâs lab. But if Jason canât fuse with Ronnie by the Firestorm Protocolâ¦who can?
METAL MEN, written by Len Wein with art by Yildiray Cinar and Trevor Scott:
Doctor Will Magnusâ Metal Men may be the next step in robotics technology, but when the mysterious cyber-terrorist known only as Nameless comes after them, they may have met their match!
METAMORPHO, written by Aaron Lopresti with art by Aaron Lopresti and Matt Banning:
Metamorphoâa prisoner of millionaire industrialist Simon Stagg! Now, the only person who can save him is Staggâs beautiful daughter, Sapphire!? But can they defeat Staggâs prehistoric bodyguard, Java?
SUGAR & SPIKE, written by Keith Giffen with art by Bilquis Evely:
The last time we saw Sugar and Spike, they were still in diapers! Now, theyâre grown up, and theyâve become private investigators who specialize in cleaning up embarrassing problems for the DCUâs greatest heroes. Sugar & Spikeâs first assignment: retrieve a cache of Batmanâs retired costumes that have been stolen by Killer Moth!
Aaron Lopresti is the cover artist for Legends of Tomorrow # 1, which will be released on March 19, 2016 at the cover price of $7.99. For 80 pages, thatâs not a bad price!
