David Lynch Will Publish Memoir in 2017

After spending much of the last decade in semi-retirement, at least from making movies, cult filmmaker David Lynch is back in the spotlight in a pretty big way. Not only is he returning to arguably his most beloved of all of his creations when Twin Peaks returns for a new series of episodes, but now he’s announced that he’ll be writing a biography/memoir to be published in 2017, called Life and Work.

The memoir portions of the book will cover Lynch’s friendships, development as an artist and filmmaker, as well as his creative struggles. The biographical sections will be written by journalist Kristine McKenna, and will draw on “interviews with about 90 of Mr. Lynch’s friends, family members, former wives and artistic collaborators, including actors, agents and musicians.”

In a statement, Lynch said “There’s a lot of bullshit out there about me, in books and all over the Internet. I want to get all the right information in one place, so if someone wants to know something, they can find it here. And I wouldn’t do it with anyone other than Kristine; she and I go way back, and she gets it right.”

As a longtime David Lynch fan, I’m not sure what he means when he says “there’s a lot of bullshit out there” about him. Undeniably, Lynch is indeed a weird dude, but he’s never led a controversial life, and despite having been married four times, none of his relationships have had a whiff of scandal about them. In fact, when you consider all of Lynch’s work in getting people to discover transcendental meditation with his whole Foundation For Consciousness-Based Education and Peace, he actually lives a kind of wholesome life (you know, minus the chain smoking and insane coffee intake.) Nevertheless, his life should still make for a very interesting read.

Life and Work is due from publisher Canongate in 2017, the same year as the new Twin Peaks is set to debut, no doubt making 2017 the most anticipated year ever for Lynch fanatics.
