David Letterman Retiring From CBS in 2015

After 22 years on CBS’ late shift, David Letterman announced during today’s taping that he will retire from The Late Show desk in 2015. There are no details as to what he’ll do afterwards, but I’m sure Dave is glad that he outlasted Jay Leno as the face of late night.

Perhaps a recent visit from his very first guest from 20 plus years ago, Bill Murray, last night should have been a sign to us all, but still, this will be a huge shake up in the world of late night, as Conan O’Brien will now arguably be in a class of his own as the longest running host of a late night talk show currently on the air.

It’s also nice to think that one episode of Louie where C.K. was up for a talk show might end up differently if this news is indeed true and Letterman follows through.

Chris I not the one for this spot he could never fill the talent need!

  2. RockyMountainHigh says:

Really Chase? I agree that a woman talk show host would be refreshing, but June Diane Raphael or Kristen Schaal??? There’s so many more qualified women for this gig. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Chelsea Handler, and Even Aisha Tyler! Unless of course she’d have to leave Archer, that’s just not an option!

  3. Chase says:

Why not a woman? How many white dude-centric talk shows do we need? I’d totally get behind a June Diane Raphael or Kristen Schaal talk show.

  4. boB says:

If not Chris Hardwick, then Kevin Pereira or Jimmy Pardo.

  5. Moe says:

Craig really deserves the spot and late night could use someone with some originality. Unfortunately I’m afraid it would most probably kill Craig’s unique humor. Damn you american TV. DAAAAAMN YOOOU!

  6. What Happened To The Quemments says:

I don’t think Craig would want the position. He’s always brought up how if he couldn’t do as he pleased every night and had to follow a tight script he would drive himself mad.

  7. Luanne says:

    Too soon 🙁

  8. Russell Wethington says:

    Late late show*

  9. Russell Wethington says:

The late show with Craig then followed by Kate late with Chris Hardwick would be epic!

  10. Brian says:

The Late Show with Chris Hardwick is a real possibility.

    Let’s make it happen!

  11. Mikey says:

I’m hoping to see Craig Ferguson get more recognition, but I’m afraid he’d have to watch his language and change his brand of humor for CBS to move him earlier. I just had a flashback to the old Late Night shows with Letterman and thought those were hilarious, and things really did change when Letterman got to 11:30. He was still good, but not as good as he was on NBC in the later time slot.

    Late Night with…Chris Hardwick?

  15. Shayde says:

    A titan will be missed.

Real question, will they replace him with CraigyFerg, or go for Conan if they can free him from TBS.

    Or go in another direction.
