David Attenborough Examines an Unhatched Dinosaur Egg

Getting to listen to Sir David Attenborough read a recipe for ice would constitute a good day, but this video does a little bit better than that, because in it the noted naturalist examines the remains of an unhatched dinosaur egg for us.

This clip is from an episode of PBS‘s Nature series, titled “Raising the Dinosaur Giant,” which looked at the discovery and recreation of perhaps the “biggest animal to have ever walked the planet,” the titanosaur. Here Attenborough talks about the dino’s “skull, limb bones, and an egg tooth similar to those found in modern birds.” We also get to see a computer rendering of what it the prehistoric baby may have looked like in the egg.

If you don’t remember learning about titanosaurs as a kid, that’s because we haven’t known about their existence for all that long.

“Deep in a South American desert, a giant is being awakened after 101 million years of sleep. Paleontologists have discovered a giant femur – the largest dinosaur bone that has ever been unearthed. Another 200 bones from the same species have also been discovered. Sir David Attenborough will guide us through the remarkable journey of waking the giant as it happens – connecting the dots, translating the paleo jargon and explaining the revelations using living examples, other dinosaur discoveries and CGI visuals. As a finale, he will unveil the completed giant.”

Look at the size of that bone!

You can actually watch the full episode now. Giant dinosaurs and David Attenborough is a nice way to spend an hour if you love awesome things.

This has given me an idea! Can someone make a version of Jurassic World where David Attenborough narrates everything going on? I’ll buy multiple copies of that Blu-ray if somebody makes it happen.
