DARK SOULS REMASTERED is Coming to Nintendo Switch

The Switch had a phenomenal first year, but Nintendo isn’t planning to coast on old glories through 2018. In a surprise announcement during an impromptu installment of Nintendo Direct, Nintendo and Bandai Namco jointly revealed that a remastered edition of Dark Souls is coming later this year.

Via Kotaku, Dark Souls Remastered will be an updated version of the original Dark Souls game, which debuted in 2011 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s an action role-playing game that casts players as an undead warrior who is cursed to wander the kingdom of Lordran to determine the fate of his people. The game also has a reputation for being incredibly hard and unforgiving even for skilled players. While the Switch version could conceivably address that level of difficulty by toning it down, somehow we suspect that Dark Souls Remastered will be just as difficult to master as the original.

The teaser trailer for Dark Souls Remastered was frustratingly brief and didn’t offer a good look at the updated gameplay. Given the unique properties of the Switch and its controllers, we have to wonder if Bandi Namco will take advantage of those motion controls. But if players were already frustrated by the game’s difficulty, then that may only make things worse… or better, depending on how you look at it.

Dark Souls Remastered will be released for the Switch on May 15, and it will include the Artorias of the Abyss DLC from the original game. Presumably the game will also be coming to Playstation 4 and Xbox One, but Bandai Namco has yet to confirm that at the time of this article.
