The Secrets Behind DAREDEVIL Season 3’s Epic Prison Fight

The hallway brawls in Marvel’s Daredevil have redefined what we expect from fight choreography on superhero TV shows, but season 3’s prison riot sequence takes the action to a whole new level. Many critics are hailing Daredevil season 3 as a return to form for the Marvel Netflix universe, and that is thanks in no small part to an incredibly ambitious and brutal fight scene that takes place during the season’s fourth episode “Blindsided.”

Editor’s note: This video contains spoilers for season 3 of Marvel’s Daredevil

Directed by Alex Garcia Lopez, the scene follows Matt Murdock as he infiltrates a prison in his civilian clothes in order to get information about Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin. What follows is 11 minutes of a drugged Matt Murdock fighting his way out through the unbridled chaos of a prison riot. But the most impressive part? It’s all captured in one long, unbroken, single shot. To find out about how they pulled off this insane feat of fisticuffs-filled filmmaking, I sat down with showrunner Erik Oleson to talk about how the scene came to pass, the biggest challenges in filming it, the future of Daredevil on Netflix, and so much more.

For even more inside info on this season of Dardevil, watch our recent interview with Oleson and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) on Nerdist News Talks Back too.

What did you think of the prison fight scene? What do you hope to see from Daredevil season 4? Let me know in the comments below.
