Customized Astromechs Galore in Sideshow Collectibles’ R2-ME2 Collection

People are capable of creating some amazing pieces of art and these customized R2-D2s are certainly proof of some serious artists. As part of Sideshow Collectibles R2-ME2 project, they put out 6th scale blanks to whomever wanted to create and, boy oh boy, did people create.  Putting personal spins on our favorite little astromech, what we’ve got here is some major crossover goodness.

Amalgamating Artoo with Daleks, Sesame Street, Adventure Time, Toy Story, Pee-Wee Herman, Cast Away, Guardians of the Galaxy, and even Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s Rat Fink, artists from all over pulled out all the stops to make some really unique and fun droids. Others, like the incredibly intricate tree house one by Kat Sapene not only blows my mind on how it was done but also makes me want to spend the rest of my life making a giant R2-D2 Tree house in which I can live out the rest of my nerdy days. If i had my way, every episode of Treehouse Masters from here on out would be devoted to making that one a reality.

Each one of these is absolutely a shining example of ART-2D2. On that note, I’ll shut up and let the gallery do the talking.

“Sideshow is proud to present R2-ME2, a unique re-imagining of everyone’s favorite sassy astromech: R2-D2!”

As the Sideshow site explains: “The Force is strong with this collective of creative minds from across the galaxy! Starting with a blank prototype of our Deluxe R2-D2 Sixth Scale Figure, Sideshow invited over 90 friends and fans to participate in customizing the iconic droid with a brand new look. Check out a sneak peek at the progress on these one-of-a-kind custom projects below, and follow along on Instagram with the hashtag #R2ME2.”

You can check out more pictures of each figure on Sideshow’s site. Which ones are your favorite? Let us know in the comments below!
