Could God and Lucifer Return to SUPERNATURAL in Season 11?

The Darkness is coming. Actually, the Darkness has already arrived. The end of Season 10 of Supernatural brought the dramatic entrance of the newest threat to the Winchesters and the world at large. The Darkness was kept locked away by the Mark of Cain and with the removal of the Mark, the Darkness was unleashed. And it’s serious business. At Comic-Con, executive producer Jeremy Carver said this is the sort of Big Bad that will require an epic quest and that its history predates the Bible. Given the mention of the Bible, you have to wonder about what kind of forces the Winchesters will have to tap to regain control of the Darkness. Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of bringing God and/or Lucifer back into the picture.

Padalecki said, “I think [the Darkness] certainly opens the door for Lucifer and/or God to pop up. We’re certainly going back to that and going a bit more biblical and having our take on the writings that didn’t make it into the Bible.”

Lucifer and God have been largely absent from the series since Season 5. They’ve been mentioned, and in the case of God, he’s possibly appeared. Many fans believe the prophet Chuck Shurley (Rob Benedict) is actually God, and his cameo at the end of Supernatural’s 200th episode “Fan Fiction” seems to support the theory. Of course, he could also have been in attendance as an author seeing how his work was adapted.

I’m of the belief that Chuck is God and as Supernatural heads into its eleventh season, there’s no better time to bring him back. The Winchesters aren’t going to get far by turning to Metatron for help and by killing Death, they’ve likely made even more enemies in high places. Searching for God and attempting to get Lucifer out of his cage would definitely make for an epic quest. And hey, since Lucifer was the first person to possess the Mark of Cain and be transformed by it after battling the Darkness, he’s probably the most knowledgable source. Plus, going after Lucifer would give the show the opportunity to have the Winchesters rescue their half-brother Adam from the cage.

Season 11 of Supernatural will premiere on October 7.
