COSMOS-Style Promo for THE MARTIAN Hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson

In the not too distant future our species will embark on “our greatest adventure”: a manned mission to Mars. Of course, that’s only the second coolest thing to look forward to. The first is that Neil deGrasse Tyson will still be hosting a show explaining its amazing science to us all.

In what might be one the best, most creative, and frankly most awesome promos for a movie ever, our personal astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson walks us through the trip to Mars about to be taken by the Ares 3 crew in The Martian. Starring Matt Damon and based on an Andy Weir novel by the same, the movie tells Mark Watney’s story — an abandoned astronaut stranded on the red planet.

The promo is set sometime after the year 2029, the year humans first touched down on Mars, and has Tyson hosting a show called StarTalk, which bears a very close resemblance to his show Cosmos (also, StarTalk). To understand the science you’ll have to hear it explained by the coolest astrophysicist alive, but it involves “the most complex and expensive machine ever built.”

With Tyson willing to lend his name to the movie, it’s hard not to feel excited for Watney’s struggle. Heck, I’m kind of excited for the real future now based on this fictional story. Not to mention Neil deGrasse Tyson will apparently age very well, which is great since he is a national treasure.

Is this the best promo for a movie you’ve ever seen? What other ones come to mind? Tell us in the comments section below. I’ll just be here waiting and watching this video 500 times.
