Cookie Monster & John Oliver Team Up for W-ORD News

To boost the vocabularies of kids across the country, Sesame Street has a new initiative called Words Are Here, There, and Everywhere, and it is bringing out great collaborations to entertain and inspire you (and the children). But you don’t have to take our word for it – just watch W-ORD Channel 7 News with Cookie Monster and John Oliver:

The news sounds dire with a missing “c”, turning the furniture you sit on into a clump of hair. That’s not going to support your lumbar region! The video was produced in collaboration with Mashable to support Words Are Here, There and Everywhere, along with help from all the guest stars that included Telly Monster, Kate McKinnon, Al Roker, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and Dave Thomas Brown as the announcer.

We would totally watch W-ORD Channel 7 News if it was on all the time. And we would probably try to find their filming location and photo bomb Telly Monster just like Kate McKinnon does. Although we would definitely encourage John Oliver to invest in some new ties – some ties that don’t prompt Cookie Monster to immediately think of his favorite thing. We wouldn’t want to see more instances of this on live television, would we?

It’s just embarrassing for all involved.

The Words Are Here, There and Everywhere has great resources for parents and teachers, including word tree activities for the autumn as leaves start to fall from the trees, activity cards in three different varieties, and a whole family guide so that parents and kids can learn about words together. You can download a lot of these great activities right on SesameStreet.org. Please support great programs like this that inspire the imagination just like Sesame Street has since you were a kid!
