Conan O’Brien and Elijah Wood Were Confused by FINAL FANTASY XV on Clueless Gamer

As revered and prolific as the Final Fantasy franchise is, it isn’t for everybody. The games usually take an exorbitant amount of hours to beat, and the stories can seem a bit outrageous at times. Now, we’ve found out that the community of Final Fantasy detractors includes Conan O’Brien and Elijah Wood. When they got together to play the latest installment of the franchise, Final Fantasy XV, on Conan‘s Clueless Gamer segment, they were… to say the least, confused.

Aaron Bleyaert tells them broadly about the game’s setting, saying that Final Fantasy XV takes place on an Earthlike planet called Eos, and that there are some crystals involved, to which O’Brien responds, “Always a crystal, right?” Then, gesturing to the Lord of the Rings star, he amends his statement, “I’m sorry, or a ring.”

Once the two actually start playing the game, they’re even less impressed. Conan is underwhelmed by everything from the appearance of the protagonists, who he says look like “Middle Earth Entourage,” to the gameplay itself. Just look at how confused he and Wood are when they realize part of their “magical journey” involves pushing a broken-down car:

O’Brien actually seems enthusiastic for a minute when he sees an Adamantoise, a giant beast that they have to destroy, but his hopes are quickly dashed once he’s informed that in order to defeat it, it takes 72 hours of real-world time, meaning he’d have to devote three actual days worth of hours to the task.

Towards the end of the segment, O’Brien was informed that some of the game’s creators were actually watching their reactions live from the room next to them, and we won’t spoil how he and Wood handle that awkward situation, so check out the video above.
