Can’t wait to see the new season of Community? Curious to see how the show will fare without Dan Harmon? Need your fix of Abed ‘n’ Troy? Did you circle October 19th on your calendar and set your DVR to record NBC that night?
Sorry. Not happening. NBC is delaying the season premiere. And when and if it ever shows up, it might not be on Fridays.
The official explanation from NBC for delaying Community and Whitney, as reported by New Jersey’s own Alan Sepinwall at HitFix.com:
âGiven the success weâve had for the past four weeks â including winning the first week of the season in A18-49 â weâve decided to continue to concentrate our promotional strength on our new NBC shows that are scheduled Monday through Wednesday and have therefore decided to hold COMMUNITY and WHITNEY from their previously announced premieres of October 19th. Without having to launch these comedies on Friday at this time, we can keep our promotion focused on earlier in the week — plus we will have both comedies in our back pocket if we need to make any schedule changes on those nights. When we have a better idea of viewing patterns in the next few weeks, we will announce new season premieres of WHITNEY and COMMUNITY. â
So they’re waiting to see which new shows make it and which don’t, with Community and Whitney waiting in the wings. It’s not the darkest timeline, but it’s not the best, either. Were you waiting eagerly for the new episodes? Were you curious about or dreading what the exit of Dan Harmon would mean to the show? Can you live a little while longer without the news from Greendale? Talk about it here in the comments….
I still don’t know what the eclipse had to do with the ‘heroes”s powers, nbc cancelled it before they could explain it. can nbc at least air the halloween episode of “community” before halloween ?, that would at least make some sense.
Fuck NBC.
Balls. Balls balls balls.
I don’t care a half second for whitney to come back but Community kills.
Funny though, that Whitney Cummings is slated to be on Leno this Friday, likely to promote her shitty show, and now can’t. Nice planning NBC.
Remember, this is the network that TAPED but didn’t AIR the Season Finale (announcing the winner) of Last Comic Standing. They cannot be trusted with your remote control. Defect before you lose even more shows you love.
@melissa Good one!
Can’t they just make this a web series? I’m so sick of NBC’s bullshit.
I am one of those people that had my DVR set to stun, and had the 19th circled on my calendar. NERD RAGE!!!! Damnit… I guess we could try writing a strongly worded letter, but they probably don’t care.
Jack Donaghy really is taking down NBC!
I was super nervous about the new season w/o Dan Harmon but I had gotten all psyched up for it, and this is bullshit.
Have not been this angry since Firefly.
That is ridiculous! There is finally a recent comedy that is not beyond predictable, and again, NBC hides it in the back of the closet. There are people who clearly watch this show. Let us have it!
Why would I care about what day or time it’s shown? I DVR it and watch it whenever I feel like, like pretty much anyone who’s into this type of show. Show it at 12:30 on the 19th, I won’t even know the difference, and the ratings for the other crap they’re pushing will still be the same.
Meh, season 3’s finale could work as a series finale. I’d rather have a finished Community than a bad Community.

This is bullcrap! We need our Greendale (and WHITNEY)! If they didn’t want to give their full backing to COMMUNITY, why did NBC even renew it?!
Once again, this is bullcrap!”
They need maybe 10 new episodes so that they can sell the whole series in syndication. Comedy Central has already picked up seasons 1-3 for syndication, and they want to bump it up over 80 episodes to make it easier to sell to other networks
It’s pretty common practice for a network to put a show that’s not getting the ratings they want, but is close to reaching 80+ episodes, on the Friday graveyard to let it limp to the finish.
Community died when Dan Harmon left. All this does is prove to me how necessary he was, from start to finish.
Why do the best smartest sitcoms like Arrested Development and Community always get screwed by the old, out-dated networks
I literally hit my desk with rage on the heels of this announcement…. UGGGGHHHHHH!!!!
Not happy. >_<
This better mean they’re moving it back to Thursday and moving Up All Night to a night that isn’t Thursday.
Pre-empting the polyannas who are saying “this is good for the show, maybe they’ll get a better time slot!”
1. You don’t know that for sure.
2. Time slots are for old fashioned nitwits at NBC, DVR and the internet rule now.
3. I WANT MY COMMUNITY NOW
Nerd rage building….time to tweet about this until NBC acknowledges my presence/disappointment.
This is why I’m scared to get into shows, because I already have my emotions tied to food, I don’t need to feel rage at a network.
This is upsetting. It still has a chance to air which is good.
I’d say this is the timeline where Pierce makes Troy scream and Britta and the Pizza Guy get engaged.
Not the darkest but it could have gone better.
This is bullcrap! We need our Greendale (and WHITNEY)! If they didn’t want to give their full backing to COMMUNITY, why did NBC even renew it?!
Once again, this is bullcrap!
Shocker.
