DC’s Dan DiDio drops hints about Rebirth

Last week, the really big comics news was DC’s first details about their big DC Rebirth event/relaunch, but we didn’t really learn much beyond the titles for the lineup of books coming out this summer. But there were some hints from Geoff Johns that old elements of DC lore that were jettisoned by the New 52 in 2011 would be coming back soon.

Now DC publisher Dan DiDio has said one other tantilizing tidbit about Rebirth, saying the first issue will contain “the single most controversial scene in DC Comics since the time I have been there.” Hmmm? Warhammer 40,000 returns to comics in 2016

At the ComicsPRO retailer summit last week, publisher Titan Comics announced that it is bringing Warhammer 40,000 back to comic store shelves later this year. The sci-fi series about space marines fighting against the armies of Chaos hasn’t had a comic published in nearly a decade.

The Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game has been around for nearly thirty years now, and has branched out into novels, video games, and other media. According to Titan, the new ongoing series will feature Warhammer 40,000’s “wealth of compelling characters, species, and searingly-memorable imagery to deliver accessible science-fiction action on an unmatched galactic canvas.” No creative team has been announced for this series, but it’s expected to hit in September of this year. And the winner of the Dwayne McDuffie Diversity Award goes to…

Recently, we talked about the nominees being announced for the Dwayne McDuffie Diversity Award, and the winner was announced at this past weekend’s Long Beach Comics Expo. Taking home the award was none other than Ms. Marvel. When the book was announced as the winner, series writer G. Willow Wilson accepted on behalf of the entire Ms. Marvel creative team via a video message.

Wilson thanked Ms. Marvel’s fans for keeping the book alive “when no-one thought it would make it past issue seven.” Now, Kamala Khan has become a mainstay of the Marvel Universe and one of its most beloved characters. Two Broke Girls star Beth Behrs to release new YA webcomic

Ok, so who saw this coming?? Two Broke Girls lead actress Beth Behrs has just announced that she is behind a new YA web comic series called Dents. The series is about a 14-year-old mutant in a post-apocalyptic version of the year 2111. Joining Behrs on Dents is musician and actor Matt Doyle (The Book of Mormon). For the cover of the first issue, Behrs and Doyle asked artist Renae De Liz (Legends of Wonder Woman) to contribute the artwork, which is a fine way to start.

In a statement, Berhrs said she wants to use Dents to “explore sexuality, feminism, environmental issues and prejudice through the eyes of our 14-year old heroine. Climate change activism is something that Matt and I are both very passionate about and it was important for us to incorporate sociopolitical elements into the comic.”

The story will be made available from LINE Webtoon and will be told in 26 parts. The series is due to hit in March, but still has no ongoing artist attached yet. [The Hollywood Reporter]

DC’s Legend of Wonder Woman gets second printing, and a change in rating

Speaking of Renae De Liz , if you’re not reading her series The Legend of Wonder Woman, you really, really should be. Although technically not in DC continuity, the digital-first series restores a lot of the classic feminist elements to Wonder Woman’s lore, and is the perfect entry point for younger readers looking to get into Diana’s adventures.

The first two print issues, which collect the first several digital chapters, have recently sold out, and DC is reprinting them — with a change. Instead of being released with a Rated “T for Teen” label, they are now rated “E for Everyone.” So for the first time in a long while, you finally can have a Wonder Woman comic that you’re comfortable giving your little girl or boy. Dark Horse announces perfect OGN for all you History Channel enthusiasts out there

Dark Horse Comics has just announced what sounds like the perfect OGN for those of you out there that watch every one of those “Hitler and the Occult” documentary specials on the History Channel (you know who you are). According to the press release, in Aleister & Adolf, media theorist and documentarian Douglas Rushkoff “weaves a mind-bending tale of iconography and mysticism, set against the backdrop of a battle-torn Europe.” The art for the OGN will come from Powers artist Michael Avon Oeming.

Aleister and Adolf is described as “a story spanning generations and featuring some of the most notable and notorious idealists of the twentieth century, legendary occultist Aleister Crowley develops a powerful and dangerous new weapon to defend the world against Adolf Hitler’s own war machine—spawning an unconventional new form of warfare that is fought not with steel but with symbols and ideas. But these intangible arsenals are much more insidious—and perhaps much more dangerous—than their creators could have ever conceived.”

DC releases more Batman v Superman variant covers

And finally, DC has revealed seven more of their Batman v Superman variant covers for the month of March. The new covers include Detective Comics #50, Batman/Superman #30, Action Comics #50, Superman #50, Robin: Son of Batman #10, Batman #50, and Superman/Wonder Woman #27.
