This week, we’ve got a few more details about that “X-Men In Space” rumor, plus the latest on Archie Comics using Kickstarter to fund their latest books. Dark Horse Brings Back Classic He-Man Mini Comics In New Hardcover Edition

When the Masters of the Universe toy line from Mattel first came out in the 1980s, each action figure came with a mini comic, telling a story featuring that figure, and in some cases, giving that figure their very own origin story. These mini comics were actually well produced, and featured some great artwork, including some from future comics superstars and DC animation legend Bruce Timm. Now Dark Horse Comics is packaging the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Minicomic Collection into a single hardcover edition, which will come in at 1,232 pages, and reprint 68 mini comics from a variety of eras, including the original ’80s toys, the She-Ra: Princess of Power line, the ’90s He-Man toys and the current Masters of the Universe Classics from Mattel. The book is scheduled for release on Oct. 21 in comic shops, and Nov. 3 in bookstores. [Comics Alliance]

Marvel Announces “Director’s Cut” Editions of Star Wars and Darth Vader Premiere Issues

The return of Star Wars to Marvel has been a massive success, with the first issue alone selling a million copies, something no single comic has done in over twenty years. Now Marvel is bringing new “Director’s Cuts” versions of both Star Wars #1 and Darth Vader #1 to fans this June.

According to the press release, “each director’s cut version features the entire first issue – read Star Wars #1 or Darth Vader #1 again or for the very first time! Then, go behind the scenes as you experience the making of these two landmark debuts. See script pages and in-progress artwork from each issue as the Star Wars universe is brought to life as only Marvel could!” The whole idea of “director’s cuts” was very popular a few years back, as a kind of DVD extras feature, but for comics, but fell out of favor with readers. Doctor Who Weekly Series Coming This Summer From Titan Comics

Titan Comics has been enjoying tremendous success with their Doctor Who line of comics, and has now officially announced a 5-part weekly Doctor Who comics event that will together the Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctor, along with the comic book companions, for a crossover event. The series will be written by Paul Cornell, the writer of episodes “Father’s Day” and “Human Nature/Family of Blood,” as well as several classic Doctor Who novels and runs on comics like Action Comics and Captain Britain and the MI:13. The event will be illustrated by Neil Edwards.

Despite being promoted as a series featuring three doctors, the covers clearly images released thus far say four doctors, leaving one a mystery as a silhouetted character on the cover. Will, it was a mystery, for about a day, but Titan Comics has just revealed that the silhouetted character is John Hurt’s War Doctor, from the 50th Anniversary Special. The first issue releases Wednesday August 12, right before Titan’s global Doctor Who Comics Day on Saturday August 15. The Art Of Comic-Con Exhibit Coming To San Diego This Summer

Despite constant rumors of Comic-Con leaving San Diego, it’s not gone quite yet, and to celebrate the show’s history with the city, this year the San Diego Public Library is playing host to an art show called The Art of Comic-Con that is set to feature original art by more than 60 artists from the Comic Con International archives including work by Sergio Aragonés, Howard Chaykin, Cliff Chiang, Gilbert Hernandez, Jim Lee, Dave McKean, Frank Miller, Marshall Rogers, John Romita Jr., Bill Sienkiewicz, Babs Tarr, and many others. Most of the artwork was created for souvenir and program books for Comic-Con, WonderCon, and APE.The show opens on Saturday, June 20, 2015  and runs through August 30th 2015. [Comics Beat]

ICYMI: The Identity Of The Woman Under Thor’s Masked Helmet Revealed

So yesterday it was revealed, after six months or so of fans’ guesses, which ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous, just who is under the masked helmet of the new female Thor. It turns out it’s none other than (and there are some serious spoilers here, folks, so turn back now if you don’t want to know) to be the Son of Odin’s long time love interest Jane Foster, who interestingly, is also battling Cancer. Are The X-Men Headed To One Of Jupiter’s Moons?

Last week, we reported the rumor that the X-Men, as well as all mutants, would be leaving the Earth post-Secret Wars, because the Inhuman Terriggen mists would prove lethal to them. Now it looks like we know what world will be serving as “Planet X”, and it appears to be Europa. No, not the continent, but one of Jupiter’s moons. Well, that keeps them kind of close to Earth, for whenever that whole virus storyline gets old and everyone moves back to upstate New York again. [Bleeding Cool]

Archie Is Using Kickstarter To Help Launch Their New Line Of Comics

Everyone seems to be using Kickstarter these days as a way of funding their projects, and now Archie Comics is getting in on the game as well, as a way  to help expand the newly refreshed Riverdale world, and help promote Mark Waid and Fiona Staples’ upcoming Archie reboot. The Kickstarter is trying to raise $350,000  to pay for the first six issues of three new series: Jughead (written by Chip Zdarsky), Betty And Veronica (written and drawn by Adam Hughes), and Life With Kevin (written and drawn by Dan Parent and inked by J. Bone).

This has caused some controversy among fans already, as Archie is a long standing publisher and not an upstart comics company trying to make a name for themselves. Also, there are many comics retailers who are not happy about potentially being cut out of the equation, with Archie selling directly to the readership via the campaign’s incentives. Could this be a game changer in how comics from well known publishers are produced from now on? Only time will tell. [AV Club]
