Dear LEGO: several artists have come up with a million dollar idea for you. Sell comic book cover sets.
LEGO already works with Marvel and DC Comics, and they could develop the concept displayed in the Comic Bricks Art Show into product. Participation in the creative exhibit was open to anyone who wanted to enlist and finished pieces were displayed at DesignerCon in Pasadena last month. The directive was straightforward: builders had to take a comic book cover and re-create it with LEGO bricks in any style they wished. Mosaics, sculpture, whatever. It turns out that turning two-dimensional covers into three-dimensional works of art is a fantastic idea.
The results are frame or display-worthy. Builders contributed pieces based on all kinds of comic book titles from The Incredible Hulk, to Star Wars, to Detective Comics. One of the contributors even remade the cover of Ewoks #1 complete with the rainbow bridge and flames:
I believe the only word for that diorama is epic. I need it on my shelf.
The contributors to the Comic Bricks Art Show are unfortunately not compiled in a handy list. Some of the artisits uploaded their own pictures to the Flickr submission group and include Andrew Lee, SparkArt!, polywen, roninsfx, and monsterbrick.
More pieces from the show can be seen in the gallery. Look at that Ghost Rider cover (I cling to anything that makes Ghost Rider look cool after that painful film adaptation)!

Be sure to head to the comments and tell us which comic book cover you’d like to re-create with LEGO bricks.
