Comedy Central Greenlights “The Meltdown”

Congratulations are in order for our own Jonah Ray, Kumail Nanjiani, and Emily Gordon with the news that the television version of The Meltdown, the weekly stand-up showcase at NerdMelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics, has been picked up by Comedy Central. Green light. A go. THAT IS HUGE.

The show is being produced by Ben Stiller’s Red Hour, and a press release quotes Jonah as saying, “Of all the comedy shows on Comedy Central that are taped in the back of a comic book store, this will be the best one.” That Jonah’s getting to be a big star, what with Bing and all. And Kumail, well, he’s all over the place, too, Portlandia and movies and now this. Emily, oh, her writing’s everywhere, and she’s helped make The Meltdown what it is… a NEW TV SHOW! THEY’RE DOING SO WELL. We’re kvelling.

Congratulations, guys.

    Good for them!

  4. Nate says:

Actually, I’m pretty sure Kumail said on a recent podcast that his stint on “Franklin & Bash” might already be complete. In addition to the Meltdown show and “Portlandia,” though, he’s also in the Mike Judge Silicon Valley pilot that got picked up by HBO, and in a Craig Robinson sitcom project for NBC that is still (iirc) up in the air.

  5. How long before Nerdist Industries buys Comedy Central outright? Hardwick and Co. could partner with Stewart and Colbert if they need more capital!

  6. Three Toes of Fury says:

woo hoo!!! Congrats Jonah, Kumail and Emily!!!

(also..Kumail…the good news is that if you get sick, you can have Pete Holmes guest host for you…he sounds exactly like you! “ooohhhh my gooooodddd emily” #pete-homes-continued-racism)

    Peace and Standup for all!
