It’s the fight just about every one of us has had at some point — whether or not it is “nerdier” to like Star Trek or Star Wars. I will admit, for the longest time, I sat strictly in the Star Wars camp, but as I grew up I was able to find an appreciation for Star Trek through the original series and The Next Generation.
The video sees Darth Vader and Captain Jean-Luc Picard square off in a battle of wits to defend both of their franchises and attack each others’. Vader focuses on Star Trek’s lack of action, pseudo-science jargon, and The Worf Effect while Picard points out the use of magic as a band-aid for plot holes, midichlorians, and the nonsensical political system of Star Wars. It’s this kind of loving skewers that makes it clear the writers have a real knowledge of both franchises.
The video does a good job of showing each side has a valid argument, but the respective characters just aren’t willing to hear it. It truly comes across like the captain of the football team picking on the captain of the debate team with the personality College Humors gives Vader and Picard. Even in being proved wrong, Vader acts like he’s won, and Picard can’t keep his cool over it.Plus, away from the bickering of the two main characters, a lot of the background happenings are hilarious. Why does Riker have to rest his foot on everything? Who let that Stromtrooper wear a bow tie? That can’t possibly be dress-code.
