Relax, folksânobody’s actually rebooting Clueless. Yet. Nor has gender-blind casting gotten so blind that those poor, struggling famous white men are now taking parts written for women. This is just a test for W magazine. But it’s a damn good one.
Seth Rogen, Bradley Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Paul Dano will never be Alicia Silverstone. As if! But when asked by W to play her comedic Clueless dialogue straight in this video, they are all surprisingly intense.
We’d like to see this go further, though. Let’s get Rogen in a tight T-shirt gyrating in an Aerosmith video. Have Bradley Cooper play Batgirl in the next Ben Affleck movie. And if, heaven forbid, anyone ever decides to remake Excess Baggage without Christopher Walken and Benicio del Toro, Jake Gyllenhaal would go a long way toward righting that wrong.
Also, where’s Paul Rudd? He needs to be actually playing his old role opposite these guys. Unless we want Alicia Silverstone to try out for his part.
But who knows? As 2015 saw decades-in-the-making sequels to Star Wars, Rocky, and Mad Max, maybe it’s just time to do a Clueless 2 for realsies. Heck, you just watched this, so you’re obviously interested.  Call it “Davenport,” and have it be about Dionne’s kid in high school, where Cher is the principal following a loss of her inherited fortune in 2008.
Sorry. This is probably giving people terrible ideas. We’ll stop now.
But would you watch it? Seriously. Or would you rather just see Seth Rogen play Cher for a whole movie? Let’s talk in comments.
