Club Nintendo to be Phased Out In 2015

If Club Nintendo has been your jam for the 4-and-change years (10 if you’re from Europe) it’s been around, oh boy, do I have some news for you! Nintendo has decided to pull the plug on the customer loyalty program this fall. The company will be steadily discontinuing the service worldwide over the course of the year in order to make way for a new membership program.

Nintendo products that hit the streets after January 20 will not be eligible for Club Nintendo registration, and the final day in the US for registering products released before then and earning coins is March 31. Club Nintendo will be officially shutting its doors in the US on June 30 at 11:59 p.m. PT. At this time, all Coins will be deleted alongside the closing of all Club Nintendo accounts. Club Nintendo will be adding a slew of downloadable games and exclusive reward items for folks to expel their coins on leading up to the programs termination. All North American Club Nintendo members will receive a voucher code for Flipnote Studio 3D in February 2015.

Club Nintendo will start to fade away slowly from other countries on April 1, and will be completely terminated come September 30, 2015. Don’t expect any account information to be carried over to the new program, which Nintendo promises to share details on in the near future.

Are you sad to see Club Nintendo go? Does it even feel like it was around long enough here in the US to even be truly missed? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I don’t user it, but my son does.  He is really going to miss it.

It’s hard to feel good when a program specifically positioned to engender loyalty is summarily snuffed out.
