Melissa Joan Hart is in Talks for a CLARISSA EXPLAINS IT ALL Reboot!

Nearly three decades ago, Melissa Joan Hart had her first breakout role in Clarissa Explains It All, Nickelodeon’s first female-led live-action series. Hart has made no secret about her desire to revisit Clarissa Darling, and now she might get her chance in a brand new revival series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nickelodeon is courting Hart to reprise her role, with original series creator Mitchell Kriegman also in talks to return. The Clarissa Explains It All revival is still in early development, but the biggest change is that Clarissa will now be all grown up (obviously) and a mother herself. We can hope and expect that Clarissa’s old habits of directly addressing the viewer and imagining herself in video game form will return for the new iteration.

This news shouldn’t be too surprising to Nerdist readers, as Hart told us last year why she wants a Clarissa revival: “I think Clarissa would be a better reboot than Sabrina. I know people really want to see Sabrina, but I think we ended it on such a great note I don’t think you could end it better…However, I do think a Clarissa reboot would be really smart because there was a lot of story left to tell. There was no finale. There was no send off into the future of what might happen with her.”

Hart previously shot a Clarissa pilot for CBS, which would have followed her early career as a journalist in New York. While that show wasn’t picked up, Kriegman wrote a sequel novel, Things I Can’t Explain, which explored Clarissa’s life in her 20s.

We still have a lot of questions about this revival, including whether Clarissa’s kids will also talk to the viewer while sorting out their problems. It should also be interesting to see if any of the other original stars return.

Are you excited about the Clarissa Explains It All revival? Explain why in the comment section below!
