A CHUCKY TV Series is Coming to SyFy

Last June, screenwriter Don Mancini took to Twitter to announce that he was working on a TV series based on his 1988 classic horror film, Child’s Play, about a demented red-hair doll that comes to life and torments a young boy and his mother. Details were scant at the time, with Mancini providing only a gif tease for the project. Now, we have more information about the television show, as SYFY has officially secured the rights to the series, called Chucky.

Mancini will write the series and serve as executive producer, along with Nick Antosca and David Kirschner, who produced all of the Chucky films. The show has no association with Orion Pictures’ remake of Child’s Play starring Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry, which comes out this June and is likely the reason for the series’ name-change. Though we don’t know anything about the plot just yet, Mancini teased in a press release announcing the show that it will be a “fresh take” on the franchise “while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

When the series was first being talked about last year, Mancini told Bloody Disgusting that Brad Dourif would return to voice the titular character, who in the original film is a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray whose soul is transferred into a doll. That film spawned six sequels, all written by Mancini, that grew increasingly more ridiculous as they went along, culminating in the The Cult of Chucky in 2017. No word on whether the TV series will follow the canon of the film franchise or start a whole new timeline, but with the original team on board, we have high hopes for SYFY’s Chucky.
