Chris Pratt Plays Jason Statham in Cut SNL Sketch

When a big name with an even bigger sense of humor like Chris Pratt comes to Saturday Night Live, people expect a sure-fire hit. The season premiere did quite well, and Pratt proved that there is a reason just about everyone in existence loves him. As a live show, though, there are plenty of sketches that do not make it to air for one reason or another. Usually sketches are cut for time in order to fit as much as they can into an episode. One such sketch is this Chris Pratt sketch selling “Jason Statham’s Jason Steakums.”

SNL usually determines to cut a sketch or not during a dress rehearsal done before the actual show airs. Dress rehearsals are taped in front of a different studio audience than the live performance, and that taped rehearsal is held on to in case they are unable to air a live episode that night. This is a place where the writers, actors, and director all get a chance to see how sketches perform when seen by an actual audience, and gauge what gets used from there. As you might be able to tell, the Steakums sketch didn’t really seem to land with the audience at all. Pratt seems a little unsure of his ability to carry the impersonation the whole time, as well as trying not to stumble over the ridiculous name of the product. Sadly, sometimes a joke just isn’t as funny to others as it is to those who made it, but even a weak sketch with Pratt is worth seeing.
