This Friday, Ethan Hunt returns for the fifth time to take on an international conspiracy in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. But what if superspy Ethan Hunt wasn’t played by Tom Cruise? What if it was the role was played by the late comedian, Chris Farley?
Todd Spence’s new parody video pulls off the improbable task of making Mission: Impossible into a comedy by intercutting footage of Farley’s films with the Rogue Nation trailer. The result is the spy movie that we’d love to see!
Because he died at the young age of 33, Farley’s career in Hollywood was a short, but memorable run from 1990 to 1997. Farley was best known for his multi-season stint on Saturday Night Live, but Farley went on to star in a few comedy films including Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, Beverly Hills Ninja, Airheads, Billy Madison, and both Wayne’s World movies.
Earlier this week, director Brent Hodge’s documentary I Am Chris Farley was given a limited release. I Am Chris Farley features interviews with several of Farley’s friends, family, and castmates including Adam Sandler, David Spade, Mike Myers, Molly Shannon, Bob Odenkirk, Tom Arnold, and Lorne Michaels. The documentary also includes rarely seen performances from Farley’s early career and home movies. I Am Chris Farley also examines Farley’s tragic death and the circumstances leading up to it. If you loved Chris Farley at all, this film may make you cry.
I Am Chris Farley will make its cable debut next month on Spike TV on August 10, with a DVD/Blu-ray and Digital release to follow. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation will be released this Friday, July 31st. With any luck maybe Cruise will show up at a theater near you like he did during our Edge of Tomorrow screening, eh?
