A CHICKEN RUN Sequel Is Official in the Works

Nearly 20 years after Aardman Animations’ movie Chicken Run became a huge smash at the box office (it still ranks as the most successful stop-motion animation film of all time!), a sequel is officially in the works! As The Hollywood Reporter states, there aren’t many details about what we can expect from the film, as the movie’s development is still in very early stages.

Of course, we can’t help but wonder what new adventure our chicken pals will get into this time around. Chicken Run ended with hen Ginger, American rooster Rocky, and the rest of the chickens from Tweedy’s Farm living happily on a secluded island, away from any chicken pot pie-wielding farmers. So will trouble come to the island, or will we be following a whole new crop of chickens on their plight for freedom?

Additionally, it will be interesting to see how much of the original cast returns for Chicken Run 2, especially Mel Gibson (who voiced Rocky), whose casting today would be considered controversial at best.

The official start date for production hasn’t yet been announced, but it stands to reason that Aardman will kick off their next chicken adventure once they wrap production on Shaun the Sheep Movie Farmageddon, which is due out next year. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we hear any new details about the plot and cast for Chicken Run 2, but if Aardman is able to recapture the magic we all encountered in the original movie, it’ll be worth the wait.

Are you excited they’re making a Chicken Run sequel? What do you hope to see in Chicken Run 2? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
