Check Out The First Trailer For LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER

Ever since his summer stint as host of The Daily Show, John Oliver has been a hot television commodity. Immediately following Stewart’s return to the show, HBO quickly announced they had struck a deal with Oliver to host a new, weekly late-night series that would cover “current” events every Sunday night. Today, the network has unveiled the first trailer for that new show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

While this is mostly a “look at whose hosting this thing” trailer, it’s nice to know Oliver and his team are taking a very self-aware approach to the fact the series will be late to the game on most major news stories, unlike his former employer.

But regardless of currency, John Oliver will no doubt kill it as host of his new series. He did an amazing job filling in for Stewart, and it’s nice to see him moving up in the world of fake news.

Last Week Tonight premieres Sunday, April 27th at 11pm on HBO.

If you have any interest in political/topical humor, and you’re not listening to Oliver and his partner Andy Zaltzmann’s The Bugle podcast every week, you’re seriously missing out. Can’t recommend it highly enough. They’ve done some “best of” episodes on fill-in weeks recently that are a good place to sample and start.
