Check Out the First Official Image from the JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS Movie

“It’s showtime, Synergy!” as Jem herself used to say back in the day. Although we did get publicity shots of each of the individual members of the Holograms last year, Universal Pictures has now given us our first official group shot of Jem and the Holograms performing together up on stage. The upcoming Jem movie is of course based on the ’80s cartoon and toy series. Universal has provided an official description of the movie along with the photo.

As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden. In Universal Pictures’ JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.

The pic has an ’80s vibe to it alright, but in the synopsis there is no mention of Synergy, the Holograms’ totally awesome sentient computer program whose avatar wears a headband for some reason, and worst of all, no mention of Jem’s rival band, the Misfits. What is Jem and the Holograms without the Misfits?? Oh well, at least we still have the IDW comic series that seems to understand the importance of the Misfits to the overall Jem mythos.

Jem is being directed by Jon M. Chu (Step Up series, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), and stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis. No official release date has been given for this one yet, but it’s expected to be coming out sometime this year.

    • MJB says:

She’s in it she just wasn’t in this particular picture. She was in the publicity shots last year.

      she’s in the movie, played by a very light-skinned girl.  not-quite-white-washing 😛
i’m not looking forward to this movie, from what i’ve seen and read, it’s not going to do the show justice.
