If someone’s good at something, you should probably let them keep doing it. After driving audiences mad with her high-octane performance as the supremely capable Imperator Furiosa in the blockbuster Best Picture nominee Mad Max: Fury Road, it would appear that Charlize Theron is going to keep the RPMs up in the red with another new role. Variety is reporting that the Oscar-winning actress is in talks to join the cast of Fast 8, the next in the absurdly popular Fast/Furious franchise. Only this time, she’ll be playing the bad guy.
The Fast and Furious films are certainly no stranger to big star villains, having just hit huge global box office with Furious 7, which saw the inclusion of Jason Statham as Dominic Toretto’s newest arch nemesis. But Theron would be the first woman to be the villain, and would lend the film some definite gravitas, hopefully leading to a more nuanced and intellectual battle of good and evil–one that doesn’t end with her and Diesel beating each other with metal pipes and wrenches.
Fast 8 will represent the first of the final trilogy of the franchise, with producer-star Diesel recently revealing that entries 9 and 10 would be the end of the line. Whether Theron would be in either of these two films is certainly unknown, but she’s proved her badassery in spades, so we certainly wouldn’t be angry if she stuck around.
We will keep you in the loop as to any developments, but in the meantime, let us know what you think of a villainous turn for the Fast and Furiosa in the comments below!
