If watching either of The Rescuers movies as a kid had you wishing you could fly on the back of a gigantic bird, look no further. Straight from Peru, Skylodge Adventure Suites gives you pretty much the closest opportunity to do so as a fully grown human.
The totally safe, weather-proof and climate controlled pods installed on a mountainside of Peru’s Sacred Valley of Cusco provide a 300-degree view of the valley below and include 4 beds, a dining area and bathroom. Did I mention the gourmet dinner complete with wine and morning breakfasts? My bad.
This trip is not for the faint of heart, however. To get to the pods, guests must either climb 400 ft. up the face of the mountain Via Ferrata (which means it’s a protected, permanent climbing trail with installed cables and ladders) or hike a trail that is described as “challenging” and includes zip lines. While the idea of doing this is absolutely incredible, I feel like you probably need some serious training and skills before you attempt it.
The capsules themselves are constructed with aerospace aluminum and weather-resistant polycarbonate which is part of what allows them to exist, stuck to the side of the mountain like bugs. In case you’re worried about privacy, the pods do come equipped with curtains, but really, who is going to see you? The condors?
Make sure you check out Natura Vive‘s site for even more pictures and stories of the experiences that are possible with their day trips and Skylodge Adventure Suites. While you do that, I’ll be over here, thinking about how much I should hike before I book a trip.
