Laissez les bon temps roulez, itâs Mardi Gras time! The time of year when New Orleans lets loose, parties hard, and eats lots and lots of King Cakes.
King Cakes are a Mardi Gras tradition, a ring of dough filled with a cinnamon filling, topped with icing, and sprinkled with sugars that signify purple for justice, green for faith and gold for power. The focal point of the King Cake is that thereâs a tiny toy baby hidden inside each pastry. Whoever finds the baby has good luck for a whole year, providing they donât choke on it. Seems hazardous.
This is an incredibly easy recipe that uses canned cinnamon roll dough, but what makes it extra special is the toy baby is replaced by one Remy LeBeau, a.k.a Bandit: New Orleans native, Le Diable Blanc, mutant card-thrower, Rogue lover, and now King Cake baby. Make some Gambit King Cakes for your chère this Fat Tuesday.
