There’s few things that can set a young person’s mind racing like seeing a brilliant, fun adventure movie for the first time. I wasn’t old enough to see Raiders of the Lost Ark in theaters in 1981 (because I wasn’t alive), but I still remember getting to watch Indiana Jones run from the giant boulder after pilfering the golden idol for the first time. That image is seared on the collective memories of every person, young or old, since it premiered. Now, 35 years after its release, Raiders of the Lost Ark is being celebrated with an awe-inspiring new print by Laurent Durieux from Bottleneck Gallery.
The print captures the wonder of the film while showing off the film’s climax, wherein the evil Belloq opens the titular Ark of the Covenant and gets himself and all the damn Nazzies blown up, melted, or imploded in a heap. We also get to see Indy himself with Marion Ravenwood close behind, walking through one of the Egyptian temples full of asps and cobras and what not. It captures the 1930s pulp quality of the story as well as the overall feeling of the movie itself. It’s glorious!
You can buy the main 24 x 36 inch print for $60 beginning today at Bottleneck Gallery’s website. A variant with an edition number of 275 will be available for $80 and an extra special wood variant will be available with an edition of only 50 for $275. The fortune and glory you’ll receive as a result of hanging this poster on your wall is priceless.
