Animated CASTLEVANIA TV Series Could Be in the Works, and More TV News

Happy almost New Year, everybody! I know many of you want to burn the past 12 months in a dumpster fire, but before you let the door hit 2016 on its butt as the year heads out, how about one more TV-Cap? Today’s round-up of television news has word about a possible Castlevania series from an Adventure Time producer, air date info for HBO’s documentary about Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, a possible season count for The Walking Dead, and more TV news.

Very Interesting. Could you imagine Konami’s Castlevania making the leap to television? I think the dark fantasy video game franchise could work well in an animated format, and it appears Fred Seibert, executive producer of Adventure Time and founder of Frederator Studios, agrees. He stopped by the Nick Animation podcast and discussed an unnamed project in development “based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years.” He said, “We’ve had [it] in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started, but there were great characters and a great story and eventually we got it going.” Now, is it definitely Castlevania? Well, producer Adi Shankhar said he was working with Frederator on an adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse back in August 2015. So… it seems to line up? Hear the comments for yourself in the above video, starting at the 31:53 mark. [CBR]

Earth and Mars. Trouble is coming between Earth and Mars in the second season of Syfy’s The Expanse. Adapted from James S.A. Corey’s books, the gripping drama is all about intensity. Watch the two teasers above if you don’t believe me. The Expanse returns on February 1. [Slashfilm]

Anime Advice! Been wondering where to start with anime? If you aren’t familiar with anime, it can be daunting–it certainly is to me. But don’t worry, Dan’s here to help! On the newest The Dan Cave, he has some recommendations for the best anime for beginners. [Nerdist]

That’s a Change. If you watched the latest Vikings, you know something big went down. Read Jessica’s recap to make sure you didn’t miss a thing.

Maybe It’s Over? Fans of Girl Meets World have been wondering if the Disney Channel show is going to be axed, and it’s mixed message time. After actor Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) told the Literary Disco podcast the series has ended, the writers’ room posted on Twitter that nothing’s official. Hmm. I’m not holding my breath. [TVLine]

Going and Going… How long could The Walking Dead keep airing? The AMC series has already lasted seven seasons, and Robert Kirkman imagines they could do five more. In a note from Kirkman in The Walking Dead #161, he talked about how long it would take the TV series to catch up with the comic. He wrote, ““It took us 6 seasons to get to 100… It won’t take us 6 years to get to 200 and that will take us to season … TWELVE. And we’ll still be ahead of the show at that point.” It’s hardly a guarantee, but it’s crossing his mind. [CBR]

Tip Your Hat. And now for some Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds-related news. First of all, HBO will air an encore presentation of Carrie Fisher’s Wishful Drinking on Sunday, January 1 at 9:00p.m. ET/PT. It’s also available on HBO Now. Then, on January 7, HBO will air Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. The documentary about the duo has been in the can for a little while; HBO is just pushing the air date. Finally, Variety reports you’ll hear Fisher’s voice in two upcoming episodes of Family Guy since she’d already completed the voice work for them.

Are you a Castlevania fan? What would you want from an animated television series? Tell me in the comments.
