Cast and Plot Announced for the Wachowskis’ SENSE8

Fans of the Wachowskis (pictured above alongside their Cloud Atlas co-helmer Tom Tykwer) who were dismayed that the sibling directors’ Jupiter Ascending was pushed back from its summer release date to 2015 may find some solace in the news that their Netflix TV show Sense8, co-produced by J. Michael Straczynski, is proceeding as planned. Details regarding its cast and plot have been revealed by Deadline.

The website reports that a handful of names familiar — or soon to be familiar — to genre film and TV fans have joined the incredibly diverse international cast. Daryl Hannah (of modern classics Blade Runner and Kill Bill), Naveen Andrews (of TV’s Lost and Once Upon a Time), and Brian J. Smith (Stargate Universe) will co-star alongside British actors Tuppence Middleton (who will also appear in Jupiter Ascending), Aml Ameen (who will appear in this year’s The Maze Runner), and Freema Agyeman (of Doctor Who and Torchwood fame).

Straczynski describes the 10-episode sci-fi drama, which is being shot in nine locations on four continents: “The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally. They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.”

  1. Jana Bess says:

A quick correction, Naveen Andrews is from Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, which was not renewed after initial season, not from Once Upon a Time

  2. Jason Carney says:

Didn’t Joss Whedon just release a movie about seeing/feeling from another’s perspective?

  3. Sam says:

Tuppence Middleton’s name is almost as hilariously British as Benedict Cumberbatch.

  4. Going Postal says:

So, they’re just plagiarizing Robert J. Sawyer’s novel Triggers, and hope to not be sued?
