This calendar year alone, there are more superheroes on both the big and small screens than ever before in the history of human events. You’ve got Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, Captain America, Iron Man, Deadpool, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, the X-Men, most of the Avengers, Daredevil, Green Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl. (Dang, that’s a lot of superheroes). But among all of these heroes — some making their returns after years away — perhaps the most important return is that of three kick-ass little girls named Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. That’s right….The Powerpuff Girls are officially back baby!
The Powerpuff Girls are three adorable little tykes created by Professor Utonium, who, using a mixture of “sugar, spice, and everything nice” and a little bit of the mysterious “Chemical X”, created the greatest superheroes the city of Townsville had ever seen. Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles defended the city from the likes of the evil Mojo Jojo, giant monsters, and you name it, and managed to do it all before bed time.
The original Powerpuff Girls animated series ran for six seasons, from 1998-2005, and helped build Cartoon Network into what it is today. Now the girls are back in a new show after a decade away, with an all-new animated series debuting with back-to-back episodes on Monday, April 4 at 6 p.m. (ET, PT). Following the premiere, there will be two action-packed weeks of new episodes (Monday-Friday, April 4 through 15 at 6 p.m. ET, PT), leading into the showâs regular time slot, Thursdays at 6 p.m. (ET, PT), on April 21.
The Powerpuff Girls will kick off its global return to television with a world premiere event on Monday, March 14 at SXSW in Austin, Texas, which will feature a world premiere screening, pre-party and parade with giant-balloon likenesses of all three Powerpuff Girls. Fast on the heels of the U.S. event, premieres will commence in regions all over the world, including Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
