Billie Lourd Pays Musical Tribute to Her Mom Carrie Fisher

In the two years since the world said goodbye to Carrie Fisher, it’s been made terribly clear just how talented an artist, important a figure, and interesting a person she really was. Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd, an incredible talent herself, continues to showcase the majesty that is her late mom with messages to the world like the one she shared on December 27, the anniversary of Fisher’s passing. Lourd met the piano with a rendition of the Jackson Browne-penned ballad “These Days,” and recorded a video for fans to enjoy and to allow themselves to be moved by.

🎏🅾️®️ ♏️🅾️♏️🅱️🌱It has been two years since my Momby’s death and I still don’t know what the “right” thing to do on a death anniversary is (I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones). So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together – sing. This is the piano her father gave her and this was one of her favorite songs. And as the song says, we must “keep on moving”. I’ve found that what keeps me moving is doing things that make me happy, working hard on the things that I’m passionate about and surrounding myself with people I love and making them smile. I hope this encourages anyone feeling a little low or lost to “keep on moving”. As my Momby once said, “take your broken heart and turn it into art” – whatever that art may be for you. ❤️

The song, originally written by Browne in 1967 for artist Nico, has seen its share of covers, notably by Elliott Smith. Lourd’s take on the number, while reverent to its classic shape and tone, is indeed uniquely moving given all that we know not just about Fisher herself, but about the relationship shared by the women. As for the rest of us, we were lucky to have an artist like Carrie, and we’re lucky to have one like Billie.
