Carrie Brownstein and Amy Poehler Officiated a Wedding at a Book Event

Having Carrie Brownstein and Amy Poehler attend your wedding would be amazing, just not quite as amazing as having them actually officiate it, which is just what the two did for one ambitious couple.

During an event in Pasadena, California to promote her book, Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, Brownstein was asked by two fans if she would officiate their wedding, right then and there. Since apparently Brownstein is an ordained minister (she said she is doing a wedding in a couple of weeks) she agreed to do it for them.

If that wasn’t cool enough by itself, it just so happened that Amy Poehler was also there, so she jumped on the piano to play some appropriate wedding music. Well, that is if you think half of the folksong “Greensleeves” is appropriate wedding music. Like the true comedic genius she is, she also made proper use of the piano for timely sound effects throughout the ceremony.

A moment like this would probably have been lost to time before the advent of smartphones, but this video looks like it’s an early 90s high school play, which somehow makes it even sweeter. Brownstein giving a sincere, heartfelt speech before the couple tied the knot made, what is inherently a funny moment, quite touching.

“All of us here are rooting for you,” Brownstein said to the couple, to a round of applause. This might not have been a traditional wedding ceremony, but it is certainly a memorable one.
