Carlton Cuse’s COLONY Picked Up by USA Network

Near-future human survival stories are all the rage these days, from The Walking Dead to Falling Skies, whatever the reason for human strife, it makes for great TV. Add another such program to the ranks as USA Network has picked up Colony, a new drama series written and executive produced by Carlton Cuse (LOST, Bates Motel) and Ryan Condal, the writer of the Brett Ratner’s Dwayne Johnson-starring Hercules from last summer.

The show will star a couple of people known for their sci-fi cred already, LOST‘s Josh Holloway and The Walking Dead‘s Sarah Wayne Callies, whom USA president Chris McCumber says “have incredible on-screen chemistry and brilliantly play a couple making tough choices to protect their family in an uncertain world.”

The series will follow a family who find themselves being pulled in opposite directions when an invading force (it’s aliens, you guys) occupies America, with some citizens choosing to aid the colonizers to make their lives easier, and some choosing to resist for the good of mankind. It will be 10-episodes, as is common for just about everything nowadays.

This marks the fourth series pick-up for USA Network for the 2015 season. Filling out USA’s slate are a hacker drama called Mr. Robot starring Christian Slater; the “event series” Dig starring the ever-awesome Jason Isaacs, and executive produced by Tim Kring (Heroes) and Gideon Raff (Homeland); and an “unpredictable thriller” called Complications created by Burn Notice‘s Matt Nix. Colony is co-produced by Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions.

(Editor’s note: Nerdist Industries is owned by Legendary Pictures but retains editorial independence.)
