Capcom Announces Brand New STREET FIGHTER V Character, Necalli

Capcom surprised fans of Street Fighter this weekend during EVO 2015 by announcing that all gameplay DLC for Street Fighter V would be free for the duration of its lifetime. Along with that news, it was announced that four completely new fighters would be joining the fray, the first of which was announced today.

Necalli is a new brawler characterized as a hard hitting, up-close-and-personal warrior who uses animalistic techniques. He’s not just one dimensional though. More complex moves are accessible via his V-Trigger, which also shifts his hair color to a bright red for a short period of time. From a design standpoint, he looks pretty sweet; there are plenty of markings all over him that turn bright red once the V-Trigger is activated. In short, he is pretty intimidating. I would not want to bump into him in an alley way.

Necalli’s background story is not known yet, but Capcom promises to reveal more about this mysterious figure soon enough. He’s also the character that was teased at the end of the Ken Masters reveal trailer during the Street Fighter San Diego Comic-Con panel held last week. In a way, we now have two completely new fighters, since Ken’s redesign is so drastic. Coincidentally you can get a little glimpse of the two duking it out in the reveal video above.

Another important note is that the Beta for the game will begin on July 23, exclusively for PS4 owners. It’s only the first one so PC users should have a crack at it sometime in the future. The Beta will run for 5 full days and will feature 4 playable characters: Chun-Li, Ryu, Nash, and M. Bison. Unfortunately, neither Ken nor Necalli are included. North American fans who pre-ordered at select retailers and on PSN will automatically have access to this event. Other regions are currently locked out, but keep your eyes peeled for announcements.

I’m continue to be impressed by the way things are rolling out for this title. Everyone is extremely optimistic now that more details have been revealed and that in itself feels like a victory. If only it were set to release earlier than next year!
