But, Of Course: “Batman and Robin,” The Musical

You remember Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin, right? Okay, well, if you haven’t wiped that movie from your memory (here’s a recall aid: Bat-Nipples!), you won’t think it’s that much of a stretch to do as Jon and Al Kaplan did and set it to music, specifically creating sure-fire Tony Award bait with this big number, “Batman, You Son of a Bitch!,” as it would be performed by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze. The impressions aren’t quite perfect, but you wouldn’t want to hear Arnold sing for real, anyway.

Jon and Al have created similar “musicals” out of practically everything you wouldn’t want set to music, from The Thing to 24 to The Help (and, yes, the latter song is about pie, exactly what you’d expect it to be about). Of course, there was the Silence of the Lambs musical, Silence!, which actually played Off Broadway, and they’ve done Schwarzenegger before with musical shorts based on Predator, T2 (opera style), Conan the Barbarian, and Total Recall. And they were also responsible for Super Mario Bros.: The 8-Bit Opera.

Maybe someone should have let THEM do the Spider-Man musical. At least it might have been intentionally funny.

  2. Oi, I hate that movie with every fiber of my being.

This musical is the only good thing to have come out of it.

  3. Kerriann says:

I love their Arnold impersonations. The Conan opera is my favorite, by far.
